Would have been five stars two years ago but sushi restaurants have become so competitive that you can find better and cheaper restaurants. Hikari serves good neta but the shari is not the best. (A bit out of trend. The rice was not firm and dry enough. It was kind of irritating to taste). I think 스시사카우 and 스시도우 will give you a better experience.

One of the best sushi place at reasonable price among nearby sushi-yas. Reservation is a must, at least day before your visit. Place is small and quiet, good for dining with small group.

Sushi\ is such a used and abused word in foreign countries, and Korea is no exception. If you think of it as simply rice, raw fish, soy sauce, wasabi, maybe some seaweed, then you wont mind the plethora of restaurants that offer cheap dishes made with these ingredients. I appreciate them as well from time to time. But true sushi is something that transcends the sum of it's parts. It doesn't beg to be gorged on as a buffet meal or a quick snack, rather it stands to be appreciated in a cadence prescribed by the chef, to satisfy without gluttony. Sushi Hikari is the first restaurant outside of Tokyo that has offered me that experience, and it does so without prohibitively expensive prices. Nestled slightly below the surface of a side street in Hongdae, Sushi Hikari is as unassuming as any small Seoul restaurant you'd see walking the streets of Itaewon, Gangnam, or Jongno-gu. It's 25,000 for lunch, which is from 12-2:30, and a reservation is required. No exceptions. They also offer dinner from 5:00 onwards, but the prices are higher and the courses are different. Each piece is offered one at a time, whether you are alone or with a group, and I recommend allowing an hour or more for your meal. You won't want to rush this. In addition to the sushi, you'll receive miso soup and cold soba noodles with shiitake mushroms, as well as complimentary tea and dessert. Keep in mind that the chef is in charge of the soy sauce and wasabi ratio, so do not expect any on the side. Though this restaurant is not strictly for sushi connoisseurs and expert foodies, the chef is very dedicated to his craft, and so one should conduct themselves in a respectful manner. If you have the time, and an interest in sushi, it would be foolish not to stop by. It's seriously that good.

While I am not a sushi expert, I love sushi and eat it in every city I visit. I was looking for some in Seoul and while hanging out in Hongdae, I came across Sushi Hikari for lunch. Some of the reviews said that you had to have a reservation, but I thought I would check it out. The restaurant is very small (only seven seats), and it was difficult to see if it was open. All of the seats were empty, so I thought that maybe it was closed. I took the short steps down to the sliding door entrance and opened the door. The chef pointed to an open seat. Since I don't speak Korean or Japanese (the chef was able to say that he was trained in Osaka), I asked for the omakase. I was served a wide array of dishes (sashimi, sushi, a roll, soup and dessert). The saba and maguro were as good as any fish I have ever had. Plus, he served me anago which has been difficult for me to find in the Seattle area where unagi is the 'go to' eel. I'm glad to have found this little gem in Seoul.
